The Palette of My Life - A Painter's Biography
In small town Mélykút, I was born in 1959, into a community where unity and love were everyday realities, given that all my relatives hailed from there. It was here, during my childhood, that I learned the importance of perseverance and diligence. The bonds formed in this place have stayed with me throughout.
However, at the age of nine, a new chapter began in my life when my family and I moved to Szentendre, the artist's city. In this place, I encountered diversity and tolerance, which facilitated an easier integration. It was in this picturesque town that the slow onset of muscular weakness affecting my health became apparent. Despite this new challenge, Szentendre filled me with inspiration and creative momentum.
After completing my studies at the Hámán Kató Vocational School and the programming department of SZÁMALK, I entered the world of computer programming. I worked as a programmer at the Szentendre Water Management Institute, and over the years, I continued to learn and evolve.
The major turning point in my life occurred in 1998 when I was admitted to the Korányi Hospital. Since the muscles assisting in breathing were affected, I had to rely on a ventilator. Awakening from a coma and undergoing a tracheotomy marked the threshold of a new phase in my life.
In 1999, at the age of forty, I joined the Respiratory Rehabilitation on Baba Street, where opportunities for an active life were created for patients relying on ventilators. It was here, in the realm of creativity, that I discovered the potential for self-expression. Since 2018, I have once again been living within the walls of the Korányi Hospital.
Thanks to my experiences in Mélykút, Szentendre, and the years spent in hospitals in Budapest, I have become a painter and creator.
The key to the colorful palette of my life lies in the caring and patient love of my family. Thus, even in the shadow of illness, I managed to preserve my joy. I found my creative outlet in the field of painting, expressing myself through landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes, depictions of people and animals, and illustrations.
During healthier times, I worked as a computer programmer, and it brings me great joy to see how my learned profession and artistic inclination beautifully intersect on this website. The collection and presentation of my artworks were created to show that there is meaning to life even when one is unwell, and I found the best way to express this through my creative activities.
When the colors of life begin to fade, I do not immerse myself in the palette of despair but turn my feelings into poetry. In each song, the magical voice of Eszter Semes-Bogya finds the perfect companion for my words.
My artworks have ventured beyond the solitude of the studio, conquering the hearts of visitors at numerous exhibitions. Among these, two standout locations are my solo exhibitions in Szentendre and Mélykút, where my paintings could showcase their capabilities.
Each exhibition not only brought success to the paintings but also something much more valuable. I enriched myself with conversations lasting into the night, friendships, and the experiences of more than fifty exhibitions. Artworks and exhibitions serve as gates through which many people could come closer to me.
My destiny unequivocally proved that even in the shadow of illness, a complete and balanced life can unfold. Painting and drawing have become the meaning of my life. My happiness has become complete due to the joy derived from people's feedback. I trust that I will have the strength and opportunity to continue creating, continuing this creative journey for a long time.
“In every bad thing, there is something good that can propel life forward. One must see what makes a person richer, what benefit can be derived from it. The goal must be set in time. I am fortunate: there has always been something that directed my life forward, towards spiritual enrichment.”
